Homework

The girls had their first real taste of homework this past weekend.
When I dropped them off at school last friday morning
their teacher handed me a bag instructing me to
have the girls play naturalist at some point over the weekend.

The bag included a variety of data collecting materials, color pencils,
a weather calendar, outdoor nature activities and a science journal.
The plan is to have each student take home a bag once each season
to observe changes in nature.

On sunday with gorgeous weather and time to get outdoors
we took the family to the local nature center to complete the assignment.

Naturalists

Amelia explaining how butterfly wings fold up.

The girls explaining how moth wings fold down.

The butterfly that started the whole explanation.

Natalie and her changing "sap" tree leaf.
(That's what she calls a maple tree because
she knows it is tapped for making syrup.)

The almost "path-kill" snake that looked like a stick
on the walking path.

Amelia observing prairie grass

Natalie deep into her observations

Explanation of Morph the Transforming Frog
made completely out of materials pulled from the Mississippi River

Morph and the Girls

In the end the girls LOVED their homework and are looking forward to more in the future.
hmmm...I wonder how long that "love" is going to last.
